Each Child Care Resource & Referral maintains a database of licensed providers in their region. Parents can search this database online, and it is used during phone and email referrals. What is Quality Child Care?
High quality child care encourages healthy social, emotional, cognitive and physical development in young children . High quality child care also helps children to become ready for school. Below are just some of the questions parents may ask when deciding on child care:

Licensing & Quality Rating

• Is the center or home licensed or currently registered?
• Does the number of children being cared for comply with the licensed capacity?
• Is the center rated for Quality?

Policies and Procedures

• Is documentation on fees, parent responsibilities and hours of operation available?
• Are there specific and appropriate goals for service?
• Does the program's disciplinary methods and philosophy coincide with best practice and regulatory guidelines?

Staff/Caregivers

• How much experience and education do the caregivers have?
• Are the caregivers kind and responsive toward children?
• Do the caregivers help the children express emotions, solve problems, and develop self-help skills?
• Is the child-to-staff ratio met?

Health, Nutrition, and Safety

• Are there good policies dealing with child health and illness?
• Are the staff prepared for emergency health situations?
• Are all dirty diapers carefully disposed of or sanitized?
• Is the diaper-changing table cleaned and sanitized after every child?
• Is the food provided safe and nutritious for the child?
• Does the food meet USDA standards and is a food menu available?
