Some PDIS Offerings to be Aware of This Fall

Hi friends, it’s Ché here!

I’ve been getting a lot of PDIS-related questions lately. Here is a compilation of responses I would like to share! I hope these are helpful:

New Mandatory Reporting Course available now

The new course for early childhood mandatory reporters, Preventing and Responding to Child Abuse and Neglect, is available on the PDIS. This 2.5-hour course is available in English, Spanish, and Arabic.

Here is what to know:

  • Everyone starting or completing mandatory reporting training after August 14, 2025 will be taking the new course.
  • If you previously completed the original course, you do NOT need to take the new course until you are due to complete your mandatory reporting training again.
  • The new course aligns with updated state mandatory reporting laws that went into effect on September 1, 2025. CDEC developed the course with child abuse and neglect experts from Illuminate Colorado and the Kempe Center.
  • The new course fixes the technical challenges in the original course.
Live Sessions of An Introduction to Child Development are back

This course meets the licensing requirement for one hour of child development training.

The Colorado Department of Early Childhood (CDEC) has partnered with Assuring Better Child Health & Development (ABCD) to offer a free, introductory course on child development. In this three-hour, two-part training (1.5 hours each part), participants will define child development, identify and describe the five major child developmental domains, and gain an understanding of why learning about child development is important to their every day work with young children and their families. Learners will be supported as they plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities and support children’s social-emotional development using positive guidance strategies. Sessions are available in English and Spanish.

Participants need to attend both 1.5 hour parts to earn a certificate. View upcoming session dates and register through your PDIS account.

Don’t forget to complete the Income and Benefits Survey

On your PDIS dashboard, you will see a blue button for the Income and Benefits Survey. It is a brief, voluntary survey which is open every year from May through September. It asks about job roles, wages, annual income, benefits, and social service use. This important tool will help us understand the realities of compensation and benefits for the early childhood workforce in Colorado.

CDEC’s statement: CDEC is committed to supporting improved compensation policy for our workforce, but we need data to assess our progress and tailor the support we provide.
