Summer survey results

We asked. You answered! Here are our top takeaways from the 2022 summer Denver child care provider survey. We received 69 responses from a range of directors, teachers, assistant teachers, family child care home providers, and those who identified as “other” support staff in child care programs.

Coaching services: The number one barrier to accessing coaching is lack of staff coverage.
Quality Navigation: Half of respondents have not engaged with our Quality Navigation services, but those who have cited the value in using those services is in having access to the knowledge and skills of navigators, support for staff on PDIS, and help with rating and documentation.
Career navigation: Most of you cited PDIS is the most complicated and challenging system/resource to use in terms of advancing your career. Most of you said you would be interested in more career navigation support services from the Council.
Business services: The top two topics of interest are getting training or consultative services on emotional/mental health support for teachers and staff, and on leadership, management, and administration.
Trainings at the Council: Most who have taken virtual trainings have had positive experiences, with a small number experiencing technical issues. We learned that many of you have NOT attended ANY virtual trainings with us. Many respondents are somewhat interested in returning to in person trainings or meetings at the Council. The top preference for timing of trainings is weekdays in the evenings with weekdays at lunch time coming in as the 2nd most popular option.
Communications: Most who responded like the frequency of newsletters and “Friday Round-ups” and find them useful. If you are not subscribed to our newsletters, you can sign up here. The most popular topics of interest is information about funding and staffing resources. Many of you do NOT engage with us on social media. If you would like to, find us on Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube by scrolling to the bottom of the page and clicking the social icons!
Overall barriers/challenges providers are facing right now: The top concern is workforce participation (lack of staff coverage and lack of qualified staff).
While this summary just scratches the surface, we were able to get a pulse from you on how things are going. Your input is extremely helpful and informs our delivery of future programs and services. Stay tuned as we consider all feedback, overall trends, and what we have in our capacity to do that will be most helpful. We’ll post a “Part II” with action items later this year!
